Myself and Jon (jotta112233) attended a meeting on 29th April 2010 with Mr. Gareth Owens of the Newport branch of Jewson's. A list was given to him as a general list of items that may be needed in a wood-oven build.( taken from the members who have posted on this site)
There is no commercial gain in this for myself but Mr Owens was asked if he could give our members favourable prices in any branch of the UK.
He came up with a general discount of......
-74% off list price for timber and plywood -50% off....Fire-bricks and fire-clay -40% off....Building materials -30% off....tool hire -10% off....hand tools
These are only the main categories and hundreds of items fall into any of these 5 categories.
Even with the % discounts it doesn't guarantee the cheapest prices so please shop around.
These discounts are available at any Jewson outlet in the UK....only to members of our forum.
To use the forum account quote "Wood and pizza oven UK forum" and the account number.......WOOP 248 .............................................................................................
The above has been copied from the old forum. The account is still open and since it's creation has been used by many people in all corners of the UK.
The general feedback from members using this facility has been very positive. A written quote with the discounted prices on it will be given upon request (you can then check the prices with other builders merchants) The only negative feedback is from people who have experienced unhelpful staff at their local branch....

Our Jewsons in Fleet have been great, not only have the supplied the Hollow bricks for my base far cheaper than any where else did, they have even delivered 2 stacks of pallets for fuel (ok I know it helps them as well but they still didnt charge me for my delivery as they were making space in there yard ) they may not always be the cheapest (but not far from it) but they certainly go that extra mile for you. thank you Canny and Jon for setting this up

There's another pat from me Terry, as the discounts at Jewsons came in handy when I was buying my materials too

Perhaps a daft question, especially as this is my first post, but does this discount still apply (and in Scotland branches too)? Many thanks, Adam

It worked for me a couple of weeks ago. I am in Kent, so I have no idea if it applies in Scotland.

Hello Kalimna....welcome to the forum.
As far as I know the account can be used in any branch within the UK. Apart from the acc. no. take with you a full list of the materials needed and they will give you a printed quotation. Check these prices with other local merchants as even with the discounts they may not be the cheapest (fire-brick and refractory are usually cheaper elsewhere).
We've had a good feedback from this account from forum members. The only negative comments have been from people who have encountered rude staff. It depends on your local branch how helpful they want to be.
If you are building an oven (you don't have to be to use the account)...please share your build with us.

Many thanks - I shall certainly share the build, but first I need to source some clay, some bricks, a place in the garden to build it, and lastly some spare time to build it! (2yr old son and 2wk old son, 2 allotments, other projects and, oh yes, a job ). At least I shall have a reasonable supply of wood (other hobby is woodworking) to fire it once it is built.... Cheers, Adam

I tried to order fireclay through my local Jewson in Cornwall but they said it was not available. If any forum user has a catalogue/order number from previuos jewson dealings could you please post any details so I can see if it would be a special order item.
Cheers Nick

My branch of Jewsons got me fireclay - I will try and find the part number or whatever on the paperwork.

Right, called a few places this morning for vermiculite (looking for 10x 100l bags - should be enough for my vermicrete base and later to fill the rest)...
Jewsons Watford: £11.99+VAT (£14.38) Jewsons Eastcote: £13.87+VAT (£16.64) Jewsons Ruislip: "We don't have vermiculite - we've been a Jewsons since only 2 months" Minster Insulation: £13.87+VAT (£16.64)
Weird thing is, I called Minster 2 weeks ago and got a quote of £11.something for 10 bags (+VAT of course). Grumble. Oh well, off to Jewsons during my lunch break!
Interesting how different branches of Jewson's quote different prices! M.
