Pete
You're as bad as me for picking fault in your own work......it looks fine to me.
The internal height of the arch should be 63% of the total internal height of your oven.....from the hearth...i.e 90cm diameter oven = 45cm height of dome...= 28.35cm height of arch. If you're not within the ballpark %...don't worry.....It'll still work.
You will always get initial smoke coming out of the arch, until there's enough heat in the oven for it to start working it's magic. A few scorch marks on the top of the arch ads character....and shows an honest hard working oven.

The gap has been filled with home-brew to stop smoke going into the void when I extend the brickwork upwards. Attachments:

Using the rubber gloves I have squeezed home-brew into the gaps between the fire-brick & the outer brickwork. I stuffed cardboard & a cement bag down the void to stop it filling up with cement & rubbish. Attachments:

Spanning the void. The pipe on the left is to thread cables and the thermocouple cables in particular. Attachments:

A nice one of the front showing progress. with the fire roaring. I was going to put the temperature sensors in the middle but too much heat escapes from the arch and it will be too hot. Attachments:

...the fire looks like this... This photo shows a nice white roof with the soot burnt off. The upper temperature sensor is the black dot about a bricks width to the right of the top of the flame. It also shows my crack which might have opened up a tiny bit since I repaired it. I may squeeze a bit more Vitcas fire cement / mastic stuff in it one day? Attachments:

First proper attempt. Although I have tried using the oven before when I had some curing fires this was the first attempt at the correct temperature. At the top of the vermiculite you can just feel it getting very slightly warm. Attachments:

Pete......love the photo's.....
Nice looking pizza on the way in......would love to see the "after" pic.
It's always nice when you can put enough heat into the oven to see the the oven start turning white......from keystone to hearth.

that's a grand looking oven, :-)
I like the attention to detail like the fact Stella won't slip off. I have seen terry decorate the odd oven with a can of strongbow. I hope to adorn my oven with plenty of booze :-)
