Hi everybody - this is my first post, but I've been lurking for a while, picking through the pearls of wisdom, whilst building my oven.
My oven is now up and running, and I've had a couple of very successful pizza firings, so my wife says I can keep it after all!
I'm now at the stage that I'm sure you've all been through, which is trying to source quality wood, tomatoes, and flour. The first is ongoing, the second was solved by these people:-
www.lupafoods.co.uk/Tomatoes/San-Marzano-Plum-Tomatoes-400g/prod_33.html
(although there seems to be a problem with their website today), but the flour was proving ( ) to be a problem, especially in my area, unless I was prepared to pay a fortune.
Finally, unlikely as the name might seem, I hit upon these guys:- www.thebeerdispensershop.com/
They're offering Cuputo Blue, Red, and an unbranded 00 flour, all at really good prices.
There's just one catch - although at the time I bought my 25Kg sack this wasn't stated, there is a minimum order or 5 sacks (this has now been made clear on their website). However, a really helpful guy from the company called Shaun phoned to say he was passing close to me a week later, and dropped my single 25Kg sack off today in person (Bank Holiday Monday) for just £5 in petrol money.
Now I'm thinking that if several members got together they could split an order, but I got the impression that with an email to Shaun, it might be possible to work something out on shipping, especially if there was enough interest. I know that he is a little reluctant to use a courier in case of damage, but it ought to be possible to come to an arrangement, especially if the buyer arranged the courier, and took the risk?
Got to be worth looking into!
I should say that I have no connection whatever with either of these companies, and have no motivation other than that of a satisfied customer in recommending them.
If anyone is interested, I also seem to have had a good result on a storage container for the flour...
