Looking good Lee! How important do you think it is to have the arch tapered as you have done? Looks very good and does it aid the transition between the dome to the entry arch?

Thanks buhna well other than the easy of transition so far i found that cleaning to be a lot easier only with dry mortar bits at the min but full circle at the the bottom aids this so can only be good for future ash also the heat circle will continue around the dome and not get trapped in the arch as it would in a plum arch just my opinion

The cuts for the transition are plain angle cuts so that make it easy and every angle lines up

The I.T tool helps to mark each brick as the arch rises every brick cut gets bigger as you go tapered from top to bottom

I'm going to start it again today and will have a close look at your pics before I do. I would like the inside to be as smooth as possible so the air flows easily, although I doubt it will have as clean lines as yours.

It did take half a days marking and cutting plus I've had 16 years of the bloody noisy experience with a sthil saw! I did you a rough sketch of how I used the it tool for the cuts each cut will be bigger at the top and the same measurement on the bottom of the last cuts top face giving you the taper Hope this helps

Thanks Lee. I have had another go today but still not happy. Not put up the arch yet but done the cuts. It's not very neat and all a bit of a botch on the inside. I'm not too bothered as you won't be able to see it once it's finished and there is still plenty of thickness.
