You have a one off specialized piece of kit and I wish you years of enjoyment from it.
That's a reasonable price it just depends on availability of materials. We were lucky enough to build from old terracotta tiles from a 17th century oven that had been attached to one of the barns and had stone laying around - borrowed sand from the forest had to buy fire cement which cost.
We are old school so don't do electronics, sensors or thermometers. The Romans didn't need them so I reckon we don't, there are ways to tell temperature without cost.

JK I'm also truly in awe of your brilliant build. Each post is better than the last. Your early comment of " Don't have the space or budget for a typical pizza oven hence the oil drum as a starting point and the 'I wonder if..' attitude, lol." .....reminds me of the comment by Charliefarley who said..." "I've run ahead of myself and started work on a pompeii pizza/bread oven without really thoroughly researching it. I've seen all the pictures on the internet and decided "I want one!" so I have made a start with preparing the foundations. Guess I'll just learn along the way". .....he then built this.. picasaweb.google.com/115426447285405371194/WoodFiredOven I just love that extra effort you guys put in to create something worthy of putting your name on it. Cheers JK..... Terry

It'll fit a 10" no problem, 12" might be a bit close to the fire. Bought myself some black iron deep pans yesterday as well, looking forward to giving those a go!

Thanks Terry,
I'm hoping the rain holds off pretty soon, otherwise that shelf is almost certain to become a dumping ground for garage rubbish, lol, JK.

Loving the oven mate, oil drums are so versatile, and make a ready made arch look forward to seeing how yours cooks. I used an oil drum for my oven, and have an oil drum bbq/smoker lined with night storage heater blocks cheers Marcus
