Thanks terry, I keep changing my plans... I have been told the base is the hardest bit !! Can't decided to go for the fill in option or to have storage under the oven??

storage is always good, if you want the security of not having a void to bridge you can either get some lintels to assist or build a wall across half making it only half as deep storage minimising on overhang, or build a "groin" out from the back 2/3rds of the way to the storage entranced to take the weight, you then get left and right wood store :-)
if you have a solid fill under hearth then it can act as a heat rink, so needs to be well damp proofed and insulated doubly well. Great place to "loose" building waste tho ;-)

You can see how I used lintels if you take a look at my thread in the Pompeii 2012 builds section. They seem to be doing the job so far

Dave You've gone for a similar option to my last Pompeii build. Thermolite interior wall with brick outer wall. I went for the log store option so the arch fromt acted as my front lintel. The brick wall on the other 3 sides acted as my shuttering, with a piece of ply underneath to support the floor of the concrete slab. Terry

very nice facing bricks there, where they reclaimed?
also very nice brick work, I found it a lot harder than it looks and my bricks are all too close together so if and when I finally point them it will be a nightmare.

Yes the bricks are yellow stock bricks.. I Reused them from the chimney breast we took out in our kitchen.. I've been told I could have got £1.30 per brick... Thanks for the comments about the brickwork, my mates dad is a legend has got lots of old school techniques and he is so fast. I did one corner and he had done three !! Terry your build looks great wish I was allowed that much room...but we need to start somewhere. Has anyone used thermocouples ?? What's the best way to capture the oven tempeture?? Thanks

Question about clay... I have found and purchased some reclaimed clay from a pottery school.. I was explaining what I was doing and they advised me that I only needed a small amount of sand to mix if any.?? Is this true?? As the course I went on made a big thing about puddling the clay at almost a ratio of 2/1 Help...
