Hit a stumbling block...
I need some flashing, but am undecided between aluminium (cheap) or copper (looks good)...
Any ideas/suggestions?

Imho....copper only looks good until it goes green.. What about lead ? Its easy to work and looks good....Or is it too hot a location ?

Lead is a no-no... leaving aside the whole heavy-metal-toxicity issues, it's going on the chimney, which I fear will just melt it...
I agree on the copper though, was thinking of maybe oxidising it a little bit with a blowtorch...

I shall be starting another "Pompeii" build thread soon. I will be trying to emulate Paul from Surrey's brilliant stone enclosure oven... (his build thread on the old forum is quite fascinating... woodovenukforum.forumup.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=547&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0&mforum=woodovenukforum ....you need to register with the old forum to see all the pics)........anyway....I was thinking of using lead to dress down from the chimney on top of the Spanish slate which I will be using for the roof. After reading this thread, I might change my mind.....I shall be following this thread to see if any other comments may help my decision. Terry

Whats the chimney style, and the roof finish?
Lead should be fine temp wise, for a brick chimney with a lined flue within, like the photo Terry supplied. As for the toxicity...that's a personal issue. Many a chimney has been flashed with lead. Lead can be worked to the tile profile.
What about a simple waterproofed cement haunch though?
Depends if you want the flashing externally, or under the tile, if a membrane is used.

bookemdanno - It's very similar to "Paul from Surrey's" build actually - but with bricks instead of stone (for now), and slate on the roof. I've been looking at copper - found a supplier that will do 20cm x 3m for £60 - which seems to be the cheapest... only issue is that it wont be here by Sunday Had a look at wickes/B&Q, but they don't seem to stock copper flashing... grumble...
