Hi All Had a day off work today so had a day working on my oven with no interruptions from the weather. I managed the arch ,started building the dome and I think I have worked out the dome to arch transition although I think I will have gone a little bit pear shaped.Going to see if I can get another couple of courses on with the radius tool before gravity takes over and I have to use formers for the last couple of rows. Looks good mate. I had to give up with the tool and do the last 2 or 3 rings using a form.

Carl that's a nice shaped dome.cleaning the inside of any brew is best done now while you have easy access.I found the top the easiest once you have your former in place.whichever type of former you use be sure it's solidly in place.mine moved but only slightly luckily and not enough to worry about.

Looking good Carl!!
My Pompeii builds always go a bit oval on the internal arch/dome transition. You can get the transition ring perfectly round but it takes a lot of intricate cutting and placement of the internal arch. I never bother as slightly oval works just as well.
For the last few rings and capstone most people use a sand form on top of a sturdy base. Make sure you use damp sand for your former as it needs to be compacted quite well. You could even add a little lime or plaster or cement to the sand to help it hold it's form.
Looks like the sun god will be shining down on us in the next week or so all the best in completing the dome.

Couldn't resist any longer lit my first small curing fire this evening and I managed to stop myself adding more wood once it started to die down!! The 8" stainless flue worked fine and no smoke came out of the front so it looks like I can set it in place this weekend and finish the thermal break ready for some good weather to do the insulation and render. Just happened to be on-line when you posted the pic......I touch my fore-locks to you Sir!!.....fine job. You are showing a fine degree of patience in your curing fires......most people are trying to roast a suckling pig at this stage.
Great job mate, and...#thanksforsharing your build with us.

We'll I have christened my new oven I lit another curing fire yesterday that turned out hotter than expected ! Ended up with a white dome inside so hurriedly made some bread dough and baked that, no pictures I am afraid the bread didn't last long enough for a photo. The build is almost finished with just the dome to paint and the bbq to set in but here is the latest build photo. Carl

Lovely job!!.....Love the finished article.
All the best with the pizza party at the week-end. It's always a good idea to fire the oven up the day before a party with some inexpensive wood. I think there are a couple of pizza dough recipes in that section of the forum. If you discover a super dough recipe please share it with us, and, we'd love to see some pics of your 1st pizza party.

The first pizza party has been complete and was a success everyone thought the pizza was great and was amazed at the speed of cooking .I lit the fire before everyone arrived and just under two hours later we were at 520C in the dome and soot had cleared down to the hearth so let everything cool for a bit and then started cooking .After pizza and lots of wine cider can chicken and Yorkshire pudding went in and that was eaten when it came out of the oven .
