I am assuming the hearth would be built once the fireproof base has been done. This would have to be built before you start on the Soldier Course (please correct me if i am wrong) Below i have created a couple of graphics showing the break between the oven door and throat. I have shown a couple of options for the throat. Here i have shown the hearth built and using the forma to protect it from damage and spillage. Please remember to cut the Forma or whatever you use to protect the Hearth into sections that will enable their removal after you have finished the Dome.

A couple of things. Firstly, and this in part goes to the problem of having a single model template, having the floor inside the dome is one option, the other option is to build the dome on top of the firebrick base. We can argue about which one is 'best', but we need to be a little careful in that we've always encouraged a richness of design. I don't want to cause any problems with this design board which I think could be very helpful to potential builders but we need to make it clear that whatever model is put up it isn't the only way of designing/building a wfo.
On other specifics, I think the flared entrance is an unnecessary design complication on small domestic ovens, where the door can be about half the width of the internal diameter of the dome, so no problems reaching all parts of the oven easily. Its good to mention the need to cover the hearth but maybe because of the texture/colour you've used, the implication is a single piece of board or plywood(?) which is going to be difficult to remove once you start building the walls.
My gut feeling is that the design should show the simplest possible design with comments about alternative design approaches.

Hello tonyb,
Thanks for the feedback. I take on board what you have said. I think the idea at the moment is for me to try and just do a concept and then turn them into a series of working drawings for all levels of skill and practicality.
I will make it clearer that these are just concepts at the moment. One good thing about them being drawings is that they are alot easier to change on a computer than in the real world.

I agree, if we (you ) can provide as many options as possible to show that there are many ways to achieve a WFO, which is our preferred way, and a definite positive compared to those across the pond.

Has anyone ever seen a working set of drawings for any type of oven? May help to organise a set of drawings for us

Personally I think it's more helpful than not to have a design to follow. Should i decide to divert from this fine, but seeing how this all goes together gives me confidence.
