Cheers pete, good to know I am not alone. I guess it was a case of over thinking things... I am using a 210mm evolution mitre saw. Just tapering the sides as the blade diameter makes cutting full trapezoids a faff. Still I have the option for some of the trickier stuff later on which is good. It's been a great help, at the moment I am just cutting each brick with three cuts, not changing the angle at all so long may that continue, I plan on winging that part. For all the reading I have done the proof is in the doing... As soon as you have the bricks in front of you it seems to just all come together... Thanks for the kind words on the build I really am enjoying it - just keen to avoid mistakes as I know what I am like when I get excited...blinkers go on a bit. I wonder what time can legally begin sawing bricks in the morn...

Cool tip. I get what you mean, I need to beef it up a bit, perhaps I can do this before I wake the neighbours with the saw tomorrow.
Hope the rain stays away a bit longer yet !

Invite your neighbours round to see what you are doing- make sure you get them round for a pizza some time.

Hey there cherrycolavodka, Your build is coming along well. I've just about finished a build in SE4 so if you need any local advice I can tell you everything I know (most of which came from this forum!).

I am just on the border at blythe hill, formerly a proper brockley resident!
I am interested to know where you sourced your k-rend. I am really impressed with the finish you got on your oven. And the chimney, did you end up getting anything for locally?
Thanks in advance

Always good to hear from another Brockley person (or former). I got my K-Rend from a place called CCF (see ukwoodfiredovenforum.proboards.com/post/16816/thread). Good price, but a little out of the way. I also picked it up. When I wanted more render I got some weber pral m from jewson in Greenwich. They were very friendly and said you could get it delivered to any branch or to your house. Maybe worth calling your local branch and seeing if they can get you some. They also do k-rend. I think render is about £15 a bag from Jewson (either k-rend or weber) vs £10 from CCF, however Terry might be able to get render added to the Jewson discount account (http://ukwoodfiredovenforum.proboards.com/thread/82/jewson-discounts)

Hi Ian, yes on both counts. Not the best size for full tapers but at that price you can't complain really... I have found it really useful!

Ian, Evolution also do a 255mm saw with a diamond blade to match also. It'll give a deeper cut, nearly 75mm i think.
Look on Ebay for secondhanders too. Evolution also have a recommisioned sales shop on there too.
good luck, danno.

Now as some of you know, I am hosting a pizza party on 28th June ... that is in 17 days time. What do you reckon i can achieve in terms of curing in that time?
Ideally I would love to have it rendered and useable. Am I pushing it a bit?
I wasn't sure if you cure the bricks and mortar for a long time before I add the devils porridge? Or can i do these stages simultaneously?
If anyone has an idea of what i could manage please do let me know how long each stage takes to cure etc.
Thanks and happy building / eating !

Good Morning, You have been busy and it's looking good. I haven't really started to cure my oven yet so not the most qualified to help. You might just want to finish the render on the outside, let it dry for a couple of days and then start curing. Depends houw much time you have really- It took me a couple of decent half days to get the blanket , chicken wire and porridge on. I am sure someone with more experience will be a long in a mo. Cheers RD

Thanks Rokdok, the revelation of the top 3 chains was interesting. The whole time i was doing it i felt uncomfortable, the beauty of the IT is you can see everything as you go along and tidy up... Well it was a mess in the there. The little children's teeth as you wisely called them either had loads of cavities or were covered in plaque! I've done my best to patch them up. Think i need to check in with DocFester and see how he cured as he looks like he did it as he went along.
