On offer (round here at least, you never know with Lidl elsewhere) today: 28cm deep and very heavy stainless pan, £15. I thought it would do for focaccia, sometimes it over-proves and needs a bit of height... It does say 'oven safe to 250c' but a) that's all you need and b) the handle is spot-welded on... what could possibly go wrong? Chas

Gday Well " what could go wrong" ...... Heaps of things Like this, coupla steaks on the grill in the oven , a pan full of potatoes, mate the meal was great . Stainless steel isn't stainless .... That Wheel and Barrow" part of the matching set, is forever blackened and marked . The minister for War and finance was not impressed, she tells me often. If you buy something like that, it's for the WFO use only! If She ( who must be obeyed ) takes ownership in her kitchen , mate your in trouble, Again Just saying .... Regards dave

Thanks for the heads up Dave, and the solidarity against wifely persecution... nah, this was bought by me, my own actual wfo bit of kit and as such beyond domestic control. In fact the sooner I blacken it so it won't be wanted in the kitchen, the sooner it's safe.

I must be lucky as I am not only her indoors but her outdoors as well! G'day I think Chas we have been caught out with some slightly sexist comments . I'll admit I started it. I hope I haven't offended ? Thanks Rivergirl for the reminder.... I feel you have let us off lightly Regards Dave

Nah, I saw that as RG telling us she's not the sort of girl to worry about a blackened pan. 'Spunky', I believe you call it...

...Rivergirl is definitely "hands on" and at home in any outdoor cooking setting. Maybe she's seen a few black pans but I am still jealous of her outdoor kitchen in France......clay oven an'all.
Pan looks OK but I wouldn't trust it in a Wood-fired oven.

No offence taken boys!!! I take no prisoners with my pans ! Was trying to say that luckily I have no one to answer to when a le creuset pan goes in clean and comes out as black as night!! Didn't even think that your comments were sexist either!! Good tip for trying to protect your pans is to stock up on a good quality tinfoil ( I like the large turkey) and wrap your pan in it. But to be honest I reckon a blackened dinged pan shows that it's been used!!

I don't know if there is one as it was built when the other site was used. But rest assured when I start my new outdoor kitchen in the spring I will be taking loads of photos!! Would have started before now ( although we've only been here 6 weeks) but there's a big pine in the middle of my would be kitchen and the chain saw is in France!!!
