I covered my firebrick barrel with stainless steel chicken wire and then a thin render coat of a home mix of fire cement, and then a layer of body soluble fire blanket. The fire blanket was then covered in a 7cm layer of Foamglass insulation, which I cut carefully to minimise gaps. The Foamglass was sealed with fire proof expanding foam which was cut back when it has set (this is pink)

I covered the Foamglass layer in K-rend, to give a waterproof and breathable covering layer, whilst I am waiting to build the tile roof and outer brick cladding. I then insulated the entrance to the oven with fire blanket And completed the rendering with the K-rend. [imago]http://s18.postimg.org/chetd0y5h/image.jpg[/img][/url] I left an expansion gap at the front, which I filled with vermiculite and sealed with a length of fire rope, I am using this fire rope behind the front decorative arch also.

I used my 500 year old Tudor bricks to build the decorative front arch to the oven. To keep it traditional I made a lime putty mortar, which was lovely to use, and I tried to keep my pointing coarse. I removed the arch former after 4 days and the arch stands fine. I have lit a fire tonight to warm the oven up, as I have a leg of Welsh lamb to cook tomorrow.

The problem is that the wife wants the bricks and tiles out of the way, so as a compromise, I'm firing it up and using it at the same time literally as I'm building it. i used the residual heat from the day before, to make a lovely lamb curry in a casserole dish, with lots of hot chillies from the greenhouse yesterday, and today as the oven is still quite warm, I filled it with logs to dry out. Brickwork is going up slowly (too slow for the wife!)

I've had time to do a bit more brickwork and have completed the chimney. Hoping to finish the brickwork in the next day or two, and to make a start on the roof.

I made a start on the roof today, and managed to get the timber work in place. I bought some lengths of oak at the Bentley Wood Fair, and cut these down today to make the eaves. I'm using structural spruce 18mm outside ply for the roof, covered in breathable membrane and using reclaimed clay tiles. I'm hoping to complete that this weekend.
