Time to build the external arch so cut off the excess from the paving slab i used cut some bricks to an L shape to cover the paver and spragged a board below it to assist with leveling L shaped bricks in place and suport pillars built and former put in place (put some stove rope inbetween the pillars and the inner arch to try and reduce heat loss by conduction completed the arch and lit a small fire in the oven (it looks totally dry but it wont be) it burnt for 10 mins and hardly heated anything but its a start before I finish the chimney area as I wont be able to fire it again until this area drys out
Noticed after i had cleaned up the top brick either side of the pillar is the wrong way around so may cut a slit in each one with my grinder to mak it match.

Hi was busy yesterday building a shelter I was thinking of insulating my chimney as it passes through the roof (to reduce fire risk from heat transfer) and wondered if i could insulate it all or will flue temps get too high? Anyone know the temperature of there flue pipe (single skin) dont want to melt the chimney pipe.

My 1000mm length single skin hits 190C at the base and 130C at the top when the oven is full pelt.

Built the shelter and rendered the oven done a couple of fires seen no steam tho did include a small vent in the top of the render after fitting the chimney and shingles to the roof First big fire (burnt a lot of scrap timber and 2 pallets) Had a sustained fire for 4 hours again no steam and temperature was 220celcius the next morning ready for some dough as soon as I am off work I think.

Very nice completed project ! Didn't notice an oven door, which you'll need for retained heat cooking such as bread, roasts etc, but that's a whole new ballgame.

Fantastic build. The secret to making top quality pizza is keeping your oven dry and using kiln dry/seasoned wood, the fact you have your oven covered you should have no problem using all year round. Great for parties with family and friends. Well done!

do you have to have a chimney for the oven or can it still draw with a 65% of dome height opening ratio? would that be more fire proof in a wooden shelter? cheers Rammers
