Hi, thank you for your advice. I was reading the rockwool data sheets, it said it broke down when it got to a certain temp.
When you say 'ceramic insulation', do you mean board? And beneath that you have your rockwool?

I used a single 25mm layer of vermiculite board under my floor made from heater blocks, and I would suggest that's the abosolute minimum required. My build (see link below) is held in a metal tray, the underside of which gets to 60c during a firing so more insulation would have been better, but it is adequate for my needs. The board is flat and dry so I laid the blocks without any sand 'grout'; yes it's more expensive but a lot quicker than vermicrete and there is no requirement to dry out the base insulation.
If building on a plinth I would use 4" blocks topped with 25mm vermiculite board and then heater blocks; but that's just my opinion and there are lots of others.
