Hi I'm new I'm nathan and looking to build a Pompeii oven i confident DIYer when it comes to plumbing fitting a kitchen fitting bathroom so on but I've never really done any bricklaying or anything like that so given it a go but any help would be much appreciated this is the space I have to put 1 and I would like to put it in the corner, i have 115cm between the white wall and the step where the door is The garden is better looking the other way lol grass and raised flower beds i have taken inspiration from stu another member on here this is hi thread ukwoodfiredovenforum.proboards.com/thread/2622/dorset-pompeii-oven This is stu oven, what I would like is something along these lines but no BBQ but a slightly larger worktop to fit in my corner of the patio what I need some help on, how do I work out dome size for my space i know what I'm going to do with the downpipe for the guttering I'm going to run a collar through the corner of the base to continue pipe to the drain like when a down pipe runs internal through a concrete floor thanks

Sorry for got to say the garden gets wider as you move away from the wall so the 115cm is the smallest mesherment and I can go as far down the white wall as I like within reosone

115 cm is not much, especially if you plan on building a brick oven there. If you cast an oven you can gain more space because they're usually only 2" thick for inner layer. Because the oven has to accomodate the entry as well that will take up more of your limited 115 cm. you save more by facing the oven mouth towards your garden or perhaps site the oven against the brick wall opposite the white wall.

I would like a brick oven, will a brick oven last longer than a cast one? when you say cast do you mean, gym ball method I seen it some where, some one 1/2 inflates a gym ball then covers it with a cement mix then pops the ball after its set, giving you a dome Thanks

I should think the longevity of a cast oven would be the same as that of a brick one depending on the materials used. Both would outlast your lifetime and probably that of your children. There are manufacturers who sell both completed cast ovens and kits that you can put together yourself. You can cast your own, but a gym ball is a bit complex because you need to dig a hole to bury the bottom half, cut a plate to fit half way and then once the casting is done move it into place. It is far easier to cast in place by building a sand castle over a firebrick floor, cast against the form and tunnel the sand out after the casting has set.

I don't want to advise which of the manufacturers I would choose but here are some questions you can ask to help you compare the two. 1. Is the oven door insulated? 2. Do the kits come with insulation and outer render? If not do you provide? (Ceramic fibre blanket and/or vermiculite/perlite) Cost? (Compare sourcing your own) 3. Likewise underfloor insulation. 4. Do the inner castings contain stainless steel needle reinforcing? 5. Is there a rebate for the door to sit against? 6. Is the flue and cowl made from stainless and can extra pipe lengths be added easily if it needs to be made taller?(Up to 600 mminternal diam. needs 125mm diam pipe, 600-900 needs 150 and over 900 needs 200. Any smaller then expect smoke issues) 7. Ratio of internal height to door mouth height? 8. Thickness of inner casting. (Most are around 50 mm) many manufacturers quote the the price of the inner castings and floor only. There's more you need.

Currently mid build on this one. Base/walls @ 120cm x 120cm, plinth 120cm x 150cm, oven to be 85cm (32in) internal
