I've roughly layed some house bricks to trap the fire bricks. All the other fire bricks for the floor were drylayed on sand & clay. I wish I'd set them properly - however. The front house bricks & the firebrick I used to finish off wih were set into 5 sand 1 lime & half a cement. I hadn't planned on using cement as laying just on lime would have made it easier to get them out if I ever need to. But when I mixed it up it looked a bit sand like so I bunged in half a cement. These are some left over slabs for the edging. It's at a bit of an angle to keep the water off. I've shoved in a small cut-off of damp course so the mortar doesn't fall through the gap when I add the adjacent slab. They are Blue / Black limestone left over from the patio. Attachments:
