The calsi board has been wrapped in foil. then there is a hyperthermia space blanket underneath and also one on top. I couldn't tape the underside so it's just tucked under. A bit messy. The top has been marked out but it moves about by roughly 10mm in places. It will do as a rough guide though. Next job will be a soldier course of bricks to form an outer circle before the bricks for the floor are cut and put inside them. [/i]With hindsight I would reconsider using the space blanket - see further info near bottom of this page.Attachments:

once its all built and rendered you will not see the "messy" bits. My build like most has plenty that a nice render coat will hide :-)
where are you going to place the probe, in the floor or in the dome?

Hi Turkey
Thanks, They will have to go into the dome. I've ordered 2 so perhaps one a third from the top & the other a third from the bottom.

A brick cutting station. A bit of tape on the angle measuring thing saved some time marking them up. I would have liked a chop saw but as I already have the stone cutter I can't justify the expense. I put the bricks in water for 20 seconds to keep the dust down and so they didn't suck the moisture out of the homebrew. It was still very dusty though. Attachments:

It's starting to look like an oven now.
The homebrew was very easy to use and good to work with.
I used the standard recipe or 3 building sand, 1 lime, 1 cement and 1 fire clay with a bit of plasticiser. I've still got the other half to do.

I was spraying the blade with a plant sprayer, this really helps cut the airborne dust down to just flying sludge which I suppose causes other issues lol.
Might be harder to do with that saw, but if you have a helper it will also increase the life of the blade by lubricating during cutting.

Thanks Turkey. I must have missed off yesterdays photo. Here it is. I think I should have put a brick under the board? Now the floor is laid the angle is wrong & I don't have any room for the home-brew.Attachments:

I nearly threw it away but with the last bit of the homebrew I forced it into the gaps under the log store / bat cave / hurricane shelter. Or as it used now a cement mixer garage. Perfect. If it does nothing else it will keep the air away from the mesh in the slab & help prevent corrosion. Attachments:

The first layer done now. The hyperthermia space blanket is a questionable choice. There is foil underneath it but the blanket itself seems to be plastic painted silver? I can't see it doing any harm though. I'll edit my original post to reflect this (no pun intended). Next job is to put the floor inside. Deep joy. I took the bricks out that I measured up for the floor earlier and put them to one side in order. Although they were marked out I haven't cut them yet and the exact size will have changed slightly. My plan it to start near the arch entrance and work back to the rear of the oven. The ones inside won't be visible eventually so this makes sense. I think I'll lay them on a dry mix of sand and clay but I' undecided. Attachments:

Pete
....Good idea !!!. Are you putting shuttering around your blockwork to hold the sides of the concrete slab?....I ask because I see you have left enough space to build a brick wall around the blocks.....I took my outer brick wall up the same time as the blockwork and it became my shuttering.....Are you doing the same?

Yes I've got 500 bricks to hide the blocks. I keep making it up as I go along but have ideas in my head. It's often impossible to describe in words what I plan next. Occasionally I'll have a flash of inspiration.
I was trying to find a link to an oven I especially like but I can't find it at the mo.

Very nice start Pete!
Please tell me that you've planned and calculated on how your baseplate will be removed through the oven arch?

ah ha... Yes I will have to trim it a bit before I start the dome. It will come out so I can lay the floor and then I will have to make a Mark 3 model. I made it big so it would sit there under it's own weight.

I've just rested 4 bricks on the floor and they are pretty level. I can't believe using sand and clay to bed them on would make them any better than they are now. So I'm just going to lay them dry with nothing under them.
