Thinking of using 4 or 5 thermocouples for a 36' Pompeii oven, does anyone have any recommendations for the couples or the reader/display?
People talk about K types, what temperature range is needed, to 500 or 600c?
Very interested in data logging at some stage but seems difficult if not an electronics wiz.

I would recommend 650oC k type thermo couples.
Also if you can't get to them after its built its worth doubling up on them for redundancy.
I must admit bought mine of eBay. But if I did it again might buy slightly better quality ones.
You can get cheap monitors it depends how many you want to read at once.
If you do want to make your own arduino has all the libraries for the max readers all ready to go. Sure you can also find examples for raspberry pi etc as well.

I bought my thermocouples off Ebay - I put ten around my oven in different locations and different depths into the bricks (so that I can see how much heat soak has been achieved). They weren't expensive ones and haven't yet failed after a couple of years used.
At the moment I have a temperature monitor with a twelve position switch that I got second-hand, so have to manually choose which sensor to read. I have built but not fitted a Raspberry Pi multi-channel logger (see my other post in this folder). You do need to be able to solder small IC legs, but my software (and there are others who have done similar) should mean that the hard work of working out the hardware design and coding software is done for anyone who wants to replicate mine setup.
