Best place to be. But I'm from the North of Devon, where the sun shines.

i have just had a quick measure, and from the current ground level to my elbow is 40cm, so i estimate i would have enough (once i have dug down say 30 cms for a solid level base) height to put a small base ontop of the bottom slab.

I'm 20 odd miles due north of Plymouth and 12 miles East of Lanson ! Hasn't rained for weeks, which is actually quite unusual ...

Rain, what rain. Its gotta be at least getting on for 7/8 weeks since we had rain. Grass is so dry, plants withering, but the Pizza oven is really come into its own. Roll on summer.

I'm 20 odd miles due north of Plymouth and 12 miles East of Lanson ! Hasn't rained for weeks, which is actually quite unusual ... So i would imagine somewhere not quite as far as Okehampton? Lydford maybe? and as for rain, we had a bit of drizzle over the fathers day weekend, but other than that not a drop! most unusual! its very nice with a breeze, but on a still day, its far too hot! devontiger, parts of my grass are looking really bad, I've just dug a pond out and the soil i dug out was so hard, it took some digging! and now I'm trying to move the spoil and its so dusty, its awful! i have done some measuring now, and i have come up with a plan... so I'm planning to dig down for the base section, damp proof it however i can (Damp proof membrane around the base and up the sides, a waterproof additive for the concrete if i can find it, and i am also thinking about using one of the paint on waterproofers for the top of the concrete base and the concrete blocks, before finally a damp proof course on top of the block work) and also build a retaining wall in front, something like this: though i am also thinking about leaving small gaps (say 10 - 12cm) between each block, so i can plant in them to cover up the wall (though i have not done any research to find out how much this will affect to strength of the wall, i suspect it may be ok, but i need to research!). does anyone have any thoughts on anything else i should consider?

The only comment I'd make is lose the quarry tiles, just use heater blocks for the floor. mine have been fine for the last four years.
Near Roadford Lake.

ross, thats such a better idea, where did you get that from? (ross, I would look for another position, or remove part of the wall, & build a proper base). Ps, I have a lot of concrete waterproof additive, if you want it.

Sorry for the delay chaps!
yeah, it was certainly a better idea to build a (small) base!
what additive is it you have? as i am struggling to find any online, I am not sure where to get it (ive tried screwfix etc.)
I am quite familiar with Roadford, well, the Lake anyway.
Picked up another 30 Storage heater blocks yesterday, I have 86 now, i reckon im going to need at least 100 - 150 to build this, though i cant seem to find any figure for storage heater builds.
Ross.

if you dont mind, i would appreciate that! i travel a lot for work, so i could always go via Okehampton, though it would be best for me on a Monday morning.
ive got search alerts setup on Gumtree, and ive managed to get quite a few through there (in various place around the country)!

I've left voice messages for the owner of the blocks but as yet have had no response.
