A couple of months since the last update as I've been working on the rest of the Pizza Hut but back to the oven now. Finally cast and polished the last piece of the concrete for round the oven and installed this weekend. Also I wasn't happy with the 5" flue so made a small mod and installed a 6" flue Now I can get on with the arch, render, trencadis, ... Or I can fire it up and cook that leg of lamb in the fridge!

Worktops look great.
I’m very happy with my 5” flue but for what little it would cost was tempted to try an adapter and a 6” just for the hell of it. Possibly go longer at the same time. Have you noticed much of a difference in draw? I would assume that it might only be marginal as you’re still restricted by the size of the 5” cast section in the oven itself? Would be great to hear your thoughts.

Worktops look great
Do you have any tips?
I started polishing my concrete worktop today using a vairable orbital polisher
Started off great but i had the hose on a slow trickle to keep the surface wet and about 30mins in everything was soaking then i started getting an electric shock so gave up haha.
Is it worth buying a water feed polisher? Or did you find a way round the issue.
I was thinking abouut attaching a hose to point at the pad
Thank

I think it's better as there is a lot less smoke on startup and the fire flows over the dome better but this may be "my car goes faster because I changed the brakes" observations. A 5" to 6" gives ~45% greater flue area so it is a significant increase.

I was thinking abouut attaching a hose to point at the pad Thank When I find the time I'll start a thread for my polished concrete build. Essentially most of it is on my build thread at the moment but briefly: I bought a water fed wet polisher brand-new-hand-variable-speed-wet-polisher-grinder-for-marble-granite-stone-860w from Aliexpress. You need a variable speed one and it's so much easier with the water fed directly I was getting some tingling shocks coming from the polisher even with rubber gloves and rubber boots on! You need to keep the polisher as dry as possible Everything gets soaked. You, anything within the radius that the polisher can spray the water and anywhere an hours worth of water can flow to 3 aggregate, 2 sharp sand, 1 cement mix. You need a low water super plasticiser (i got mine from Wickes) and some fibres for extra strength (again from Wickes) Vibrate the mould once you have poured the mix until loads of bubbles have come to the surface. Be careful when pouring not to move all the thing you've put in the bottom of the mould. Wait 4 to 5 days Get it out of the mould Start on 30/50 grit and take the surface down to the level you want. I wanted to see a lot of the aggregates, glass and shells I'd added. You should set the speed so when you are grinding the motor is just labouring Move up through 100, 200 and 400 grit exposing more of the aggregate, getting the look you want and shaping the edges Mix up a slurry coat (mine was 100% cement, plasticiser and water) and spread this thinly over the damp surface to fill the voids Wait 2 to 3 days so it has gone hard Grind this starting at 200/400 grit Repeat the slurry coat if you need to Polish with 800, 1600, 3200 grit Seal with concrete seal (again from Wickes)

Hi, thanks that's a great little write up to help me along.
I never thought about places like aliexpress & wish for this kind of tool. for the size of area i will be polishing it will pay for itself in less hospital visits haha.
i have already made my first worktop and its basically a carbon copy of what you said so happy with that ii just added some re-bar of the overhang.
Did the concrete seal give it a wet look finish?
thanks for the help

You do have to watch out for ghosting with re-bar where you can see the bars through the concrete. They recommend Ladder Reinforcement as it is smaller The sealer gives it a less dusty look. I'm not sure I would describe it as shiny

Hi,
I've followed your build with interest - looks great. I have a couple of questions about your shelter and flue setup if that's ok?
What's the roofing material on top of the flat roof that you've got over the outdoor kitchen? Have you used a twin-wall flue or is it single? I've got what looks like a similar setup to you but can't work out how best to put the flue through the roof.
Cheers

Cheers I've got ply wood then heavy duty felt on the roof and have a flat roof flashing on top of that with felt strips round the edges to seal it. The flue stars as single wall out of the oven then has a converter to twin wall and the twin wall goes through the roof. It then has a storm collar and rain cap to finish it off. you need twin wall through the roof or the ply and felt gets a bit hot

Finally got the enthusiasm to start the last piece of polished concrete which is a breakfast bar next to the BBQ and pizza oven Built the mold, added the curved corners, masticed it all up and added the shells, glass and mosaic Mixed up the 3:2:1 mix, added the fibres and as this has an overhang buried some 6mm reinforcing mesh into the concrete. Now the 4 day wait before it comes out of the mold and I can start the grinding

Hi, I am starting my lockdown Milano 750 build and I'm carefully reading all of the threads. A great source of practical info! I am interested in your use of thermocouples, can you expand(!) a little of what you did there? What material and where did you lay them? What did you use for data collection? I rather like the idea Thanks
