Now I've just got to work out how to make/fit a handle to my door. (which was actually my arch template. Drilled a hole and put a thermometer in it seems to work fine) Attachments:

Yeah it is Homebase Weathershield High Perfomance waterproof paint. Its got added silicone so it fills hair line cracks. I'm impressed with it leaves a good finish nice and smooth.

Just building my pizza table, I'm using marine ply with stone floor tiles as this has worked out to be around £70 whereas a slab of marble/granite was going to cost hundreds. Getting a tight join for the tiles was quite tricky but its pretty smooth and kneading should be no problem. Attachments:

excellent looking beastie sir! Could you just confirm the final size of your top slab (was it 1.20?) and also the size of the oven internal afterwards (did you plump for the 90 afterall?). One final thing ......you appear to have not gone for the 4 inch coat of vermiculite (if thats the right term) on top of the blanket and just rendered over the top of chicken wire on the blanket, have I got that right? and if so do you notice the final dome getting warm to the touch or do you think that you have enough insulation as is - I'm asking because my space is quite tight too. Ta!

@h12pro I used castable concrete as the render on mine, skipped the vermicrete layer. Had three roaring fires in it so far. Its only got warm to the touch once (longest burn which was about 6 hours) and the IR temp gun clocked it at 50C. You could rest your hand on it comfortably, was quite nice on a chilly night That is with 2 layers of blanket by the way. See my build for details, link in the footer.

Looks really good Lee! Exactly the style I'll be looking to build myself in the future.

Hi I did actually give the oven a 2" vermiculite coating on top of the chicken wired blankets, then a good few inches of render. In the end I ended up with a internal dimension of 70cm which is really plenty big enough, as I could cook 2 pizza's at a time with coals in, or three with the coals swept out. However its very quick and for best results I only ever do one at a time.

Lee
What a brilliant result......well done!!!
After using quite a few different ovens I know that a work station next to the oven is invaluable. Good choice on the ceramic tile work surface.

Has anyone else had any problems with the frost, my render is taking a hell of a beating Lee The reason for the cracking is perhaps a thing you need to look at before repairing the render. Normally frost damage will appear when water has made it's way under the render, then frozen. When the ice thaws it expands and causes cracks. Usually cracks start appearing around the chimney area. For a permanent solution to future cracking (if there are cracks coming from your s/s chimney)....you may have to (depending on how the chimney was fitted)...chase a 5 or 10mm joint around the chimney and wrap some fire-blanket or a piece of thin fire-board ....scored on the back so you can bend it and insert around the chimney. This only needs to be the depth of the render. The perfect sealing of this would be to slide a flange down and over the chimney and fix with fire-cement.......if that's the problem. To repair the cracks, chase out the cracks to about 10mm wide and repair with a mortar mix of sand, cement and lime at a ratio of 8:1:1. If you wanted to put another full coat of render on I would forget the cracks and prep the area with "tilers primer"...used neat applying the solution with a sponge..then cover the area with chicken wire and use a couple of bags of K-Rend or a similar product. K-rend is a waterproof render that comes in 25kg bags. You simply add water to make the render. Some Jewson outlets stock it....or can get it. "Sheffield insulation" always sell it. You can find your local branch of Sheffield Insulation by going on their on-line site and entering your postcode.....sometimes they trade under a different name . These are only a few suggestions from me......hope you get a bit more feedback. Terry

Hi Terry thanks, my chimney is fine actually. It's started on the legs paint and render falling off. Then it cracked around the thermal foam base above the top concrete slab. And now the top of the dome where the recent snow was sitting. I had minimal damage until about two weeks ago but since the snow the render just seems to be falling off will I need to wire brush/sand off any paint ?
