Remove any loose or scabby bits right back to a solid surface. Tyrolean is a good finish and if you paint it white it looks like snow lol. I used Tyrolean on my house 15 years ago and is still solid. www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGhO_VNWpugConic

Hi Leeb, i too have a Render and Frost battle going on!
This started in November, when i went away not expecting frost. Then a week of -10s in February has killed it. Its all covered up so that i cannot get too depressed at the moment. But having said that, i am actually looking forward to being able to work on it again.
I do also have to re-jig the area around the chimney, as some heat cracks started out from there on the last use before November.
Good luck with your re-render!

Thanks must admit I am looking forward to it a bit. Maybe I didn't make a thick enough Coat of render, I did however use a waterproof PVA. I just thought it the weather wouldn't cause it a problem. I wouldn't want to do this every year

Today I started to repair all my frost damage. I cut back all the effected render and a bit more but it wasn't too deep or as bad as I first feared Attachments:

I used PVA then re-rendered I just hope the forecast is correct and it doesn't rain tonight or tomorrow as I'm going to give it a lick of paint in the morning. I also brought some waterproofer that you apply after the paint has dried. Hopefully it will stop the frost next winter. I do enjoy doing work on the WFO but I don't think I'd fancy doing this amount of repairs every year Attachments:

Nice bit of repair work.
We did have some severe cold weather last year so many ovens may have had some frost damage. For a long time now I have been suggesting using K-Rend or a similar waterproof...."just add water to mix"..product. I've still never used it myself but it would be good to get some feedback on this product from those who have.

Lee, if you can, grab an angle grinder and cut a groove into the underside of the bricks creating the shelf at the front of your lovely oven. I think it'll help shed the water off that area and avoid continual damage to the area above the timber. What happens is that the water is creeping back along the underside of the shelf and getting behind the render there. Freezes and pops the render. I have the same issue. Look at the underside of a windowsill or door tread, there'll be a groove cut into the timber, or a ridge on a upvc version. Its the same principle. Water won't run uphill.

Thanks for the advice BookemDanno, I think I'll have a go at that. I have got about a 1.5cm overhang to play with, just requires a steady hand

All repaired now, although I might have to weld some spikes on top of my chimney cover as every morning a bird sits on it and does his business on my oven Attachments:

Lee A cowl/Chinese hat that slips inside your chimney should sort the birds out. Great repair job......and I love the "baking sketch". Hope it's OK....I've turned your picture the right way round.... Terry

Aaaaahhh, love that new wood delivery smell ;D. Waiting for the weather to improve slightly so I can paint the weatherproofing I brought. I also want to cut a grove under the overhang from the brick floor. Attachments:

Awesome innit!!
I put the back seats down on my estate last month to collect a half load from my woodsman. I completely filled the rear of the car from floor to ceiling, tailgate to front seats in hardwood logs. It ended up in a right state, and bouced off the suspension bump stops all the way home, but it smelt fantastic for more than a week after!!!
Enjoy the burns!
