I was close to buying the Ooni Koda pizza oven as reviews are good, I lack the skill set to build my own dome, and it seems like a 'relatively' cheap solution. I understand the idea is that it essentially gives you the same result as a woodfired pizza, however a friend said that this is not true (was in whatsapp so thats all I got). What could be talking about - smokeyness? I understand it gets to 500°C (932°F) so interms of the base and the cook/char it should be the same no? Or at least relatively the sam. נערות ליווי בתל אביבThoughs on the Ooni Koda appreciated too!

You need no special skill set to build a dome just the willingness to give it a go. Nothing that you can’t learn from reading this and other forums and most importantly being willing to give it a go.
That said you’ll need a lot more money for a wood fired oven than the Ooni Koda. They’re not a small investment though you’ll find plenty of threads from people who have built their ovens for very little. Found one recently on YouTube. Chap called Da Malat if I recall. Nice series of videos claiming to be able to build a perfectly decent oven for £70. He did, but I’d take issue with how he adds up the cost. Lots of stuff he uses that is ‘free’. Well it is if you happen to have it lying around but if not you’ll need to buy it.
Anyway. Appreciate that it doesn’t really answer your question. The gas fired oven you refer to will do the job fine in the sense that both will cook pizza. But in addition to authentic flavour the Ooni will lack any of the theatre, ceremony, romance or sense of occasion of a ‘proper’ pizza oven. Each to their own of course. Personally I think you’ll be disappointed and if you can justify a little more money I’d go for one of the ready built pizza oven / wood-fired ovens readily available on eBay and the like. Best of many worlds in terms of fun, taste and cost. Just my opinion of course.
