We installed an Earthstone model 60 oven in 2012 and have enjoyed many delicious meals from it. Unfortunately the oven lining (the pre-cast dome supplied with the kit) is starting to break up. Material comes down from the roof is friable and it looks as though the fabric of the oven has degraded. I generally find small pieces when cleaning out the cold oven, but also when starting a new fire more material falls.
I assume that the oven fabric has got damp and the fired too quickly, starting the break-up. I have re-pointed the oven's barrel-brickwork outer and given it a coat of waterproofing silicone compound.
I think the only way forward would be to re-line the oven either with firebrick slips or a fire cement. Are there companies out there who do this kind of thing? Or any suggestions about how best to approach the work?
Thanks, Dave
