I l also like your door but once the oven reaches max temp, surely this door would burn up. Would a 50mm layer of kingspan insulation board with an sheet steele plate on top protect the wood?

Own door is the place which is highly used in winter season and use of wooden doors gives it natural look. But use of wooden doors is not easy as they are very close to fire.

Any recommendations as to where to get hardwood for the door? We went to Rigeons today (just as they were closing) and a 1.8m length x 45mm x 90mm was around £40? I'm checking ebay... thx S

neveer pay much for wood.
1, bonfire night is with us soon give the kids a couple of quid for some of their wood, you will be amazed at what this country burns each year to commemaorate medevil terrorists.
2, search Yell.co or your local paper ads for companies that use hardwood as they have skips full of waste. Hardwood doors, fire check doors, conservatory and double glasing installers, hardwood skirting boards, canal locks offcuts, demolition sites, ask your local scrapman to keep a lookout as they do their rounds everyday.
You could also make a rustic wfo door by cutting down some of your logs and dowel them together
the more you fish, the more you will find but you have to be a bit cheeky and not afraid to ask.

Resurrecting an old thread... but I'm interested to know how the door is holding up. I'm just a little wary about putting raw wood against the inside of the oven with the high temps in there.
