link Hehe - link didn't work for me but I know exactly which you mean, as I'd just been looking at those myself I'm just north of Winchester, that seller's in Norfolk I think so a long way away. Guy's only interested in a cash sale; if it was one roll I'd try and persuade him to take paypal and send a courier to pick it up (can do that for under a tenner), but two rolls would be more difficult (the stuff is quite heavy apparently, but none of the data sheets will tell me how bloody heavy per roll, which is frustrating). Whereabouts are you? Very happy to organise some sort of sharing arrangement if practical! Cheers Dave

link Just seen your thread (N Wilts) - I actually work in Salisbury through the week, so not that far away; might be practical to organise some sort of swappage if things work out. I'm on a seriously low budget too...started out intending to build a river cottage style clay/ cob oven for nothing, then got sucked into the world of bricks and mortar.... I'll almost certainly have some chicken wire you'd be welcome too if needed.

Funny that, i too was sucked in HFW!! My Fire Blanket is fine, thanks. I did a chimney rebuild, and the rockwool touching the single walled flue right as it exits the oven showed no sign of heat damage at all.
I got mine from a seconds warehouse off of ebay and sent a courier for a tenner.
I think there may be a thread on here somewhere. Only thing i'd say is that the Rockwool is very soft and even with the wire it has a tendency to sag and put up quite a fight when getting it around the dome.
have fun! Danno

I use Mineral wool all the time. It is a lot more cost effective, but not as efficient as ceramic inch per inch (or cm to cm). I usually couple it with loose insulation, and it does the job very well. If you are not going to build an enclosure, then I recommend ceramic. And when you parge the outside of the dome, don't trowel it out smooth, or scratch the surface like when you brown coat for stucco (render)...then the insulation won't slump.
Btw, there is ceramic insulation being made that is body soluble. You should still use lung protection, but exposure to skin isn't as critical.

Hi all, I've read this post a while ago and decided to try and build an insulated oven using rockwool or glasswool that I found. It got over 400 degrees Celsius a couple of times and it is working just fine without any degradation. Just wanted to let you know. Hth. See the build at youtu.be/1ahly6FVbyQ.

That's good to know cheers edo, good idea for your oven, is it storage heater bricks on the bottom? Bet it heats up nice and quick too!
