I live in South West France it's like England 30 years ago - but my Dad reckons when he visits it's like England 50 years ago.
Most of the local farmers are Bio (organic) as they don't go in for overcropping. There is an apple farm near the local village that uses chemicals and they are not popular. They are picking at the moment and it aint perfect they just drop them on the floor.
The wild boar don't eat them but the deer do.
You can buy wine/apple presses here quite cheaply.
The Dordogne is still 45% wooded so we have no shortage of wood and it is quite an industry. I just bought my winters wood supply - chestnut at 35 euros a square meter pre-split and in meter lengths so needs cutting.
My stepson has built a circular saw that uses the 125cc four stroke engine out of our rotavator - bloomin' dangerous contraption but it works well.
I can leave my house and walk in woods for hours and you rarely see another human.
We have finally had some rain so the mushrooms will be arriving soon. Lovely day today 23C and blue skies.
