Thermal blocks in place. The base has now moved into its own position and become a part of the pergola that covers it. I will take a photo. I got some red tiles today off ebay - 4 sq mtrs of 4" red terracotta cherry coloured tiles for £20 So once the oven is in place the tiles will decorate the base around it Attachments:

Andy
Nominate a foreman.......an experienced builder would be be perfect. There's always a way of achieving a goal. Honestly......there's always an easy solution.......or a practicable way of getting around an awkward situation.
If your location is anywhere near S.Wales I would offer my "on site" advice.......otherwise .....best of luck.

Thanks Terry If only i was your way. In Morecambe, so quite a distance.
Anyway, have pretty much opted for hiring a Genie Lift Advantage. Lifts 454kg, has fork extensions so should enable me to reach the edge of my base. Will still need the muscle of a few guys, but more for maneuvering on the base rather than lifting it up. Am aiming for this weekend.
Might not be able to photograph the process as im sure they wont appreciate me taking photos while they do all the hard work. But will give you all an update shortly.

Ok, todays the day. Going to hire the Genie Lift from a local company. Get it back home from work around 4pm. Might be tomorrow that i get to the lifting part, but will let you know how it goes.

Well, 2 hours and 5 guys later, we got it in place. The winch i hired was excellent, although at the last minute, 2 inches short of getting the oven on the base, we heard an almighty bang and creak.........couldn't tell where it came from, so i have never moved so quickly in all my life. We hoisted it up and yanked the 400kg oven onto the base before the winch gave way. Brown pants is all i can say! Attachments:

Thanks all. It feels a bit like cheating when I see all the hard work you guys have done in building your own. Last night I put in the twin wall flue and roof flashing. Fired the oven up to 250c. Getting a bit of smoke from what I thought was dry wood but perhaps not dry enough. Started to get the white patches on the dome which I was pleased about.
Will do another fire and crank it up to 350. That'll be 4 fires done, gradually building up the temp.
Am hoping to tile and render the base at the weekend and then it's ready.
