A quick shot showing the render after a light scraping. It really does look great: Next task was to create a nice level platform to mount the flue on: After a couple of days to dry out it's looking pretty good. I'm away for a couple of weeks now but should have a nice solid base to attach the flue to when I return.

And here is a shot with the flue attached! It is a 1000mm 8 inch double wall flue attached to an adaptor which is screwed to a flat steel plate. This is attached to the brickwork with tapcons. It's pretty big, but I don't think it is too out of place given the size of the oven. Next step was more render. After he success with the K Rend I decided to render the base as well. Only problem was that I couldn't source K Rend in any colour other than white (and it's variants). My local Jewsons (Greenwich) was able to source some 'granite grey' weber pral M though, which is the same thing really. So, 7 bags of that and I had a rendered base (winning sample tile also shown): And another shot, this time after I had scraped down the render with a wire brush (how I wish I had bought a scratch float) I also cleaned up the edges around the oven landing. Now for some more curing fires! I've started cutting the tiles with a tile cutter (for the few straight cuts) and an angle grinder with tile disc for all the curved cuts

Superb build Alun, and both our builds share many similar ideas. (great minds think alike!)
Thanks for the K-Rend tips, just got the first layer on my oven and if the final finish matches yours I will be well happy. Where did you get the flue pipe? I might have to add one to increase draw.
Cheers
Pete

Hey Pete, the flue pipe came from Docherty (http://docherty.co.uk/). It was far from cheap though - I just got frustrated after too much over researching and trying to locate something in South London that I didn't have to take a day off work to sort out. Having said that it is very high quality and Graham at Docherty was great to deal with.

A long time without an update but not for lack of pizza Here's a shot just after I got the tiles all cut and laid around the oven. All those round edges were a real pain to do but it does look nice when it's done. Along with some grey grout and silicon sealant. The tiles were pretty cheap, only a pound or two each and give a great work surface around the oven. Been experimenting with some things other than pizza. Chorizo cooked in cider: and some beef ribs with a Pit Cue rub: And finally, I extended the paving to incorporate the oven. This really makes it feel like part of the house/garden and is much nicer than standing in a muddy puddle I still need to make a door for the oven, and also want to sort something out to better store the wood and tools underneath but I am amazed at what I'e achieved and a big thank you again to the community here.

Hi Alun, well done it looks fantastic, that last push to do the cobblestones etc makes all the difference. My one is 90% finished, I put the vermiculite on in Sept 2014 and then went away for a couple of months. I think it is dried out now & I want to do the render. What render did you use? I was going to use K Rend Silicone FT, however i have just got off the phone with their technical dept. & they said it is only water resistant not waterproof, which caught me by surprise. Or are they just covering themselves and for all intents and purposes it should last a good few years. Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks Ben

Hi Alan
I am just starting on a DIY project to build a similar Pizza Oven to yours.
Your thread has been an inspiration and extremely informative.
Just one question, the inner arch of the entrance is smaller than the external arch, it looks like you have got a course of bricks from the dome at the top of the tunnel. Is this deliberate? I wondered if it would stop the flow of smoke into the tunnel and up the chimney.

Very late reply but anyway. Yes the inner arch is smaller in order to have something for the door to butt up against. Doesn't seem to impact the airflow though.

Inspirational build! Do you mind me asking where you got your rebar from and what sort of cost it was?

Rebar was from Jewson's (using the forum discount). I can't remember the cost. I really should dig out the receipts and post something up though.
