A great big hello! Apologies if any body has already tried them but I have had life changing moment that I feel I must share and hopefully, convert some of you. By the way San Marzano tomatoes 50p a can in tesco. Using the empty can, make 3 small holes on one side of the can just wide enough to fit 3 pre soaked wooden skewers (I threw in a couple of stones from the gravel path just to weigh the can down) I bought large olives without the stone from tesco's help yourself section. Stick them on the skewers and put the tin in the oven until they start to blister! Wood oven olives! Life changing Enjoy

A great one for the kids to do!! Must give it a try! Another recipe I like for the BBQ, Olives mixed colours , I also like the garlic stuffed ones Garlic ( I like it very garlicky so about 7 minced cloves ) Zest of a lemon and juice of half. Olive oil Salt Chilli optional and up to you how much Herbs of choice , I tend to use cumin, fennel or thyme Mix and bake for 20 mins Sprinkle with fresh green herb and a finely chopped Tom or roasted red pepper for the colour mostly. Not done these for a while and I love them so thanks for the memory jolt

Re: Tesco San Marzano Tomatoes. They only contain 65% tomatoes the rest is made up of concentrated tomato juice and citric acid :-( Best to go for the D.O.P. San Marzano tinned ones.

I may not be able to get all the posh flour, tomatoes and mozzarella that many of you can get, but olives I can get aplenty! ;D I even have my own baby olive tree, which hopefully will start producing fruit at some point. Can't moan about the tomatoes here either, they taste wonderful, and absolutely nothing like the items they sell in the UK.

I buy tomatoes slice in half put in roaster , sprinkle with sea salt and herbs , leave overnight ..... Keep the watery juicy for soup. Then bake them draining the watery juice off which is great for soups , risottos etc. cool and freeze. At the moment I am getting 2 kilos for 3 euros and he will be selling trays of his ugly tomatoes off cheaper. I also use my dehydrator but if the oven is on then it makes sense to use that. If you use the small tetra packs of juice etc they make the perfect single portion size.

Similar here Rivergirl. It's great when tomatoes are so cheap. I buy couple of carrier bags at a time and roast them. Freeze about half, and puree and freeze the other half. Freezer is bursting at the seams now. Got last lot at the unbelievable price of 40 kurus a kilo which is around 15p!
