had a few manic weekends and haven't been able to do any work on the WFO. But i finally got a free saturday and the weather was great. the fire ceramic blanket fitted nicely and was pinned down. i went for 25mm thick, original plan was to us 50mm but due to lack of funds i stuck with 25mm.

once blanket was pinned i then layer a layer of bricks over the top for added insulation and mass. Plus these were free bricks which i thought may help compensate for the thinner ceramic fire blanket.

just finished the chimney, my only concern with this is the height. Is it tall enough?? I did a smoke test and it draws pretty well so i am happy with it. But what does everyone else think?

G'day That looks a little to close to the house and below the roof line. You'll probably find the local council might not like that. But on the plus side it's not a normal fire and once hot those oven walls will kick the heat back on the fire you will not have any visible smoke. Why don't you try its first if it doesn't work out you can always add a steel pipe on top Regards dave

you can't really see but its in a sheltered area, very little wind so hopefully shouldn't have any problems. But a steel pipe onto would be pretty easy to do should it not work, do you know any good sites where i could pick one up? my other thought was putting a terracotta chimney, might go better with the cream render i got planned www.travisperkins.co.uk/p/hepworth-chimney-pot-roll-top-buff-600mm/855835/3893474

The first layer of render is going on tomorrow and then (weather permitting) the final cost will go on next Saturday.
Now the question is, should i do any curing Fires between the two coats? if so how soon after the first coat goes down? and should is there a temperature range i should aim to get the fire?

Quick fire test to ensure the chimney is drawing correctly - after this we think we might need to add some height to the chimney, but will test again when we get the oven a bit hotter.
