Right Oven coming in 2 weeks Just to put people in the picture Im building my oven inside a summer house Once built my aim is to build a frame around it up to the ceiling then clad it So it will look like a chimney breast with the obvious oven opening in the middle Base For me the easiest way to build this would be Breeze blocks or should this be concrete blocks up to required height then concrete lintels across then thermalite blocks flat for insulation then bricks laid around the edge for a 75mm vermicrete base Good or not good Cheers Michael

I've just ordered a mezzo, was going to build a cob but changed my mind, I've had a right time choosing the base I want to use, in the end I've gone for some bricks so hopefully get thst built soon.
Look forward to seeing photos of your build

Thanks moggy Im seeing a bricklayer tomorrow and will ask him about the right blocks ( almost certain concrete) My real only question is once the blocks are laid then lay the lintels across is the thermalite blocks plus 3 inches of Vermiculite enough insulation or do I have to add insulation board is well ?

Ohh that's a good question I guess the vermiculite would be enough but some board wouldn't help. I'm just leaving mine au natural for now then might insulate it at a later date

Hi Michael,
I'm doing exactly the same - lintels, thermalites then vermicrete to top off and put the mezzo on that.
Not saying it's right but your not on your own :-)
Tbh seeing some of the the ovens on the stonebake website I think ours would be somewhat over engineered - never a bad thing however!
Hope the build goes well and takes less time than mine!,
Jon

Thanks for the reply Jon I can see my build dragging on a bit to be honest The summer house is just a frame with Polythene over it With my 50th close and holidays soon I can see a Pizza being a long way off Im just hoping for a proper roof and the oven in place before the end of summer The forum seems very quiet I thought there might be more interest Probably best to ring up the Stone bake company and ask Laura if we are fine in what we are doing for piece of mind Cheers Michael Good luck to you as well Jon and Moggy

Guys looking at some of the other builds on here a few have used the base structure you are talking about so I'm sure it will be fine.

Yep I'd agree with that - if the stone bake oven company sell iron cube stands for the oven to sit on, a concrete structure with multiple support beams can only be as good if not better!
Looking forward to seeing the photo progress!
