Hi all, I just ordered railway sleepers to build my plinth which will be about 1m high. On the other dimensions I am a bit unsure. I am building a 76cm internal diameter oven with a fire brick arch entrance which I believe is made of 23cm long bricks. Can anyone help on the free area that I should allow for the fire brick base, such that it is safe with the timber sleepers?
Also, my DIY skills are low! I would appreciate any advice on what to use to build the sleepers plinth: either screws, corner brackets, rods, etc. The sleepers I am using are 200 x 100mm.
thank you

Sleepers work fine. Seen it done many times and there is/was a chap on eBay selling them as kits or with an assembly service. Will depend what you’re putting on it of course. You’ll need to check that the base of your oven is well insulated to avoid setting fire to your sleepers.
