Slowfood
In your post you don't actually say that "Orchard ovens" have now become "Jamie Oliver ovens".
When they were Orchard ovens there was an emphasis on building bespoke ovens, but now under Jamie Oliver ovens the emphasis seems to be on selling (imported?) modular ovens. Saying that, Jamie would only ever endorse a product that is 1st class and I believe he is only one of two companies in the UK who can produce certification from Defra for ovens that can be used in Inner city smoke free zones......the other being Dingley-dell....who is the only manufacturer of modular ovens in the UK who carries this certification (I think).
Bladesman.......hope you get some first-hand feedback on Dome 60 oven.

I was looking at the dingly -dell website video and he seemed to diss Orchards claim of having the Defra Cirficate. Maybe I am wrong but reading between the lines that was what he was saying.... His construction method is very good, He had inflatable inner forms made, simply inflate, cover in refractory or whatever then deflate, He now makes little buildings on the same method as the ovens are getting harder and harder to sell with all the new competition. Sorry I don't have a website or blog but can usually be found here. on the FB Forum or Torquecars forum (My other passion) Thanks and good luck.... By the way have you seen how cheap ovens are on Italian ebay... I was once thinking of going over and filling a van up. ha ha. (Fuel used to be cheap) Thanks

you can check the defra website to see who is covered, smokecontrol.defra.gov.uk/appliances.php?country=efrom this we can see the Jamie oliver ovens are different to the orchard ovens but both made / owned by the same parent company Valoriani of vita something or other from Italy.

Thanks with the replies so far.
As Cannyfradock points out the geezer is unlikely to put his name to a product that is not ,er, pucka.
PS does my other passion of 510 bhp and 461 lbs/ft meet with Slowfood's approval?

I suspect kerb weight need to be taken into consideration, under a ton (long or short) and that's a whole lot of fun :-)

PS does my other passion of 510 bhp and 461 lbs/ft meet with Slowfood's approval? It most certainly does (unless it's a tractor, train or Range Rover ;D) What is it (Jag or Jag engine)? All this effort with the oven hopefully is going to bag me yet another thirsty toy

Lol
Well spotted it's a Jag XKR. My other passion a Series 11a diesel Landrover has a mighty 62 bhp and 103llb/ft (on paper at least)
As for WFO I don't have th time to undertake a full build project and therefore a ready made oven has many plus points.
I still need to do a bit more homework

wow I am glad it wasn't a range rover, Nice Car, I promised my self an XKR or XJR years ago but alas that feeling has passed, Now I am entering the ManoPorsche stage,,, I guess it's not a mid life crisis if you're a petrol head anyway. Good luck with the oven hunt, There is a guy who represents all the manufacturers but I forget his companies name, Regards J

Thanks.
The hunt/homework goes on for the most suitable WFO.
The Alfa ovens look good - there was a thread about them last night but it seems to have gone astray.

What are your needs? what size externally, What are you looking to cook (Pizza only), would you like to bake bread. How often do you think you'll use it (TBH I have hardly ever used mine). Any particular style etc,

My wish list is that it is something that can be moved around the garden/patios and ideally moved to neighbours' gardens.
I aim to use it for general cooking and pizzas. I like the idea of baking bread (Mrs Bladesman has bought me a course at a local artisan baker) but the reality is that this would be very rare.

The mobility you are looking for limits your choice to the low weight/low thermal mass wfos, which tend to be less good for baking bread and a little bit more fiddly to mange the temp on longer duration cooking.

My oven hopefully is up to baking bread (1050mm diameter internally) but even before the insulation claddind and base etc it weighs somewhere around 550 kgs. I am very skeptical on the lightweight ovens, I am old fashioned in that Thermal mass and conduction is a crucial part of the whole cooking process. However there are lightweight ovens around, I am goint to hopefully build a prototype once this oven has gone, I am sure the answer is to use perlite/vermiculite mixed with refractory but everybody is keeping fairly tight lipped about thier recipe, I'll have a good read and see what I can find for you.
