Terry (cannyfradock) suggested I add lime to my repair mortar. Does anyone know where I could get just a small quantity (couple of kilos tops)?
Also what is the ratio sand:cement:lime (8:1:1?) and is it ok to add plasticiser?
Any help appreciated.

You'll need Hydrated or Building Lime. All Builders Merchants will have it (remember that Terry sorted out a forum discount at Jewsons, good ol boy), and it'll only be a fiver or so for a 25kg bag. Any left over can be sprinkled on your vegetable patch! You may get smaller bags from B&Q or something, but could end up paying more for it! The Lime acts as a plasticiser, so long as you mix it for long enough. Having said that, i don't think it makes any harm to add a bit of plaz too.

lime is stocked by builders merchants, although they might only have 25kg bags... I seem to remember the bag I brought had mix values on the side, but that sounds about right I think, its likely to be quite a sticky workable mix with the lime anyhow so I would hold off plasticiser but I know nothing really about render.
