Hi guys, I'm just trying to workout some costings for my WFO. Money's tight, so I'm trying to keep the cost down as low as possible without compromising the quality of my project. Any tips on saving pennies greatly appreciated! I'm intending on doing a 90cm homage to Vic's build, only with a vermicrete and k-rend finish: ukwoodfiredovenforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=pompeiioven&action=display&thread=88I've used Terry's list as a starter for 10, but I'd be keen to know if anyone's got any advise/cheaper sources? woodovenukforum.forumup.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1296&highlight=fire+cement+recipe&mforum=woodovenukforumHere's what I've got on my list so far Quoted by local builders yard (prices ex vat) for founds, base and under hearth slab: 50 concrete blocks - £0.91each 15 thermolite blocks - £1.08each 1 bulkbag of washed pea gravel - £35.94 1 bulkbag builders sand - £34.74 6 bags of Portland cement (does that sound right?) - £5.10each I've still to source the following - any advise on guide price, quantity required, or the best place to buy greatly appreciated: 2 x fire-clay - approx. £30 a bag (dry form fire-clay) 1 x lime - £10? 3 x 100l Vermiculite for vermicrete render Ceramic blanket 2 x 1.5 sq/m 10mm rebar K-rend - 3 bags £14each? The only thing I've actually bought thus far is my dome bricks: 100 reclaimed reds (loads of halfs thrown in FOC ) - £40 Anything else I haven't thought of? Thanks in advance Gareth

I just ordered my fire bricks and clay from castree kilns. I went for terracotta clay as I'm doing a clay oven, however I did notice however that their fire clay as £10 for 25kg.

I saved a fortune by scrounging a builders bag full of chippings from the local leisure centre contractors site office .....I also picked up quite a bit of wood they'd ripped out which I used for my shuttering etc and cheekily got enough sand to cast my base by asking people with 1/4 bags leftover from jobs on their drive..........they were all glad for me just to take it off their drives.

Cant get over how cheap materials are in uk compared ireland Terry mentioned to me that kiln linings who advertise on this site will ship to Ireland. This may save some cost. I intend to find out for myself in the next couple of weeks.
