I've seen 2 different methods for creating the dome and porch/chimney area in different builds and was wondering if there is any benefit to either.
Method 1 seems to be to make a complete dome former, then cut the door later and build the porch/chimney area. This seems rather wasteful to me (in clay and time)
The 2nd method is to build the former to include the porch/chimney space and do the clay layer in one go. This method appears to be used with either a pre-built arch, or with an arch being added later.
Its it personal choice or does one tend to produce better results?
