Eddie, i reckon as the Calcil board is so dry you could wrap it in heavy gauge tin foil with no problems apart from it wanting to move about a bit when there's no weight on it. Better that then Bitumen flavoured food!

Well this one has been a long time coming. Life and other issues had got in the way of this build, but I decided this morning that if I don't get things moving, it just isn't going to happen. With the above in mind, I have now just placed an order with Kiln Linings, so hopefully things can now start! My only concern to date is the direction that the oven opening is going be in. The site is pretty exposed, and the opening will face north west, and does catch a lot of wind. To position the opening in different direction just isn't sadly practical, so I guess that I'm just going to have to live with this. The image sizes, seem to have made themselves bigger than originally posted, so sorry about that. I'll try to re do them again. edit... Managed to buy cheap pop up gazebo as well today on Ebay, which I've already collected and put over the base to try to keep the worse of the weather off. I've also found a solution for the prevailing weather issue. I'm going to plant a holly hedge around the outside perimeter of the patio. Okay it won't be instant, but at least I'll know that it will eventually help.

Unfortunately my plans to get this started are already under threat. I now need to get a load of exterior paintwork done on the Mum-in-laws house before she has a conservatory fitted. So much for my plans. On a plus side, this little lot arrived today.

Come on - get going with it. I hope to have my first firing this weekend! Mine has taken longer than I wanted but still only about 4 months in total. Yours looks a hundred times better already! Get it finished!

I knew that you would be along sooner or later. I was waiting for you to turn and give me a hand.

Mmmm It's a question of priorities. Your oven should come first, painting the exterior of your mother in laws comes second, Life is short and you shouldn't miss another whole pizza season. That would be really cruel.

I had an hour to spare at work today, so quickly knocked up a temporary elm door and a pizza peel from elm and oak.

More home made tools added to this thread. Last weekend saw the first of try out, when I stuck in some lamb chops. My wife cooked half of them in a conventional oven, and I coked the rest outside. We had guests to stay, and I gave everyone a blind tasting session. Guess which won by 100% margin. I also decided that cooking times need to be gauged by empty bottles. It takes three bottles of beer to cook chops! I have also braved the first pizza making session, and already learnt a few things to change for next time, but I was still pretty pleased with my first go.
