Hi Guys,
Though not technically a pizza oven question... I have recently dug up some clay wet soil near my pizza oven proposed site. I wan't to put down around 5cm of hardcore to support possible fake grass.
I have run out of small stones and slate chippings and need some more to put down, what could I use?
Many thanks
David

Any question on prep work for a pizza oven is relevant although I'm not quite sure of your question?
I'll guess that you would like to make up the space from where you removed the soil and build up ready to take your fake grass?
.....when people lay their own base, then pour a slab on top of the supporting walls, the most economical way of doing this is to buy in a 1 ton jumbo bag of "all-in"....a mix of sand and chippings which is the easiest way to mix your own concrete with the addition of cement.
If you do have "all-in" I would suggest you lay a weed membrane on top of what you have, then lay some all in on top of this. This can be easily leveled and left exactly at a depth to take your fake grass. The false grass has a meshed back allowing drainage and the "all-in" will also also help drainage.
Maybe I have misunderstood and I'm talking through my lower aperture???

Get some geotextile from your local garden centre, and then some MOT Type 1 Roadstone. Its readily available in tonne bags or loose from aggregates suppliers or Builders Merchants. Its the slightly pink granite scalpings and fines. This gives you a hard sub-base which will also drain easily. It is best compacted with a wacker plate or roller, but if its only getting very light traffic, you can "heel" it in. The Geotextile acts as a barrier to stop the scalpings working into the soil below.
