Anyone brave enough to do xmas dinner in WFO? I have been trying to convince Mrs that the turkey should be done in WFO but she is having none of it!

Christmas dinner will be cooked in my ceramic primo, as I don't think we will have built the new one before Christmas ! Cooking the meat outdoors does take the pressure off the Kitchen.

Agree with RG, have done my turkey in a smoker the last few years, family don't want it any other way now. It frees up the oven and makes the whole cooking part of the day easier. Cheers Marcus

hi moorsy,
i'm not cooking the official xmas dinner in the wfo as were at the in laws for the big day! but i will be doing a "christmas dinner" over the festive period and yes i'll be using the wfo! i did a roast chicken dinner on sunday, all went really smoothly the chicken was amazing and the roast potatoes were probably the best i've ever had, as rg said it took the pressure off the kitchen and i had the whole inside oven free to do my yorkshire puddings! after sundays trial i feel relatively relaxed now about cooking the turkey outside!

I now do a large part of the Xmas dindins in the WFO for 3 reasons - 1/ As stated it does free up the indoor oven 2/ The WFO cooks more efficiently than the indoor oven when properly fired 3/ I enjoy getting up early on Xmas Day and firing up the oven and cracking on with the cooking of the dinner. Sad I know:)

Sad I know:) Tom that's not sad !! Who amongst us hasn't set the alarm at regular intervals throughout the night for a long slow cook!! The WFO makes fabulous mash!! I put my pots in whole and scrape the middles out for mash ( the skins I salt and spice and there's a general free for all! ) it makes for a very dry , fluffy mash , I also jam my butter and cream in as well . It not only warms it up for the mash but gives it a hint of smokiness......... I am so going to miss my Bert this Christmas.

We are away for Christmas this year but it is definitely one for the future, nothing sad with firing up the oven plus the bonus of some quiet as most others wont venture out in the cold

WFO Xmas dinner definitely out of play for me at moment. I do want to get it fired up over the holiday period though and currently thinking of pizza night on boxing day followed by some retained heat slow cooking maybe a stew or lamb shanks on the 27th.

I did Christmas dinner in WFO oven last year, and very well it turned out too. Unfortunately can't do this year, as am in baltic Scotland just now, and couldn't quite manage to bring the oven with me!

I did cook the turkey in the wfo a couple of years ago and it did look spectacular with the oven open and snow on the dome but I found it more difficult to time things so have reverted to the kitchen oven. I'll be trying the spatchcock method as described on Serious eats this year.

My oven is currently full of booze, as an outside chiller due to no room indoors.
Must get a second fridge!

well talked the other half into it brought 2 smaller turkeys (this one being 10lbs) the wife did one in the normal oven & i did mine in the WFO both could have done with about 1/2 hr less time but were both excellent. This onbe had a real smoke flavour to it Nothing like lighting the fire xmas morning Attachments:
