Hi !
Stephen here from the Suffolk coast
After many many years of dreaming, I have today taken delivery of my Mezzo pizza oven from the Stone Bake Oven Company.
All the base is built (which will also have sink and Fire Magic barbecue and side burner installed when my lottery numbers come up! ) but need the bricklayer to come back and make the final base, a couple of courses of bricks with vermiculite or something in just to bring it up nearer to eye level
Not sure how we're going to lift it though !
Will keep you updated and will post photos as soon as there's something worth seeing !
Does anyone know where to get decent pepperoni ?
Regards Stephen

Hello Stephan.....welcome to the forum.
We've have nothing but GOOD feedback from Laura's ovens on the forum (Stonebake co.)
She is the best person to advise you on what type of insulation you need under the oven hearth.
I've always built my ovens brick by brick so have never come across how to lift them on your stand. Many members have bought Laura's ovens...or similar, so I hope you get a bit more feedback on that.
Terry
p.s.....The general rule of thumb for a domestic pizza oven is to have the hearth at "elbow height" of the guy working the peel.

ANOTHER SUNNY SUFFOLK DWELLER!!! WAY-HEY!!! welcome to the forum Stephen I've been so lonely over here in East Anglia. I'm a "self builder", with recycled and recliamed materials. you've chosen wisely there, and i look forward to seeing the photographs of your outdoor cooking station. your builder should be able to hire a manual lifter from a hire centre, or know of another method. whereabouts on the beautiful suffolk coastline are you?

Hi. I'm in Knodishall, postcode IP17 1UY
where are you ?
funnily enough, I was in Ipswich today and went into Hirebase to enquire about a "floor crane" as they're called, but anyone who could help me was out. But I think Jewsons in Leiston might do them.
My barbecue area is either up or down steps though so it might just come down to brute force with a smattering of ignorance!

I'm in Bungay. They're almost round, so perhaps you could just roll it! Only joking by the way! An idea will present itself, i'm sure. You're still quite a distance away, but if you need a hand, i'll see if i can run down sometime. Good luck, and make sure you upload some photos! Danno

Bungay is not far !! I am always in Halesworth visiting clients it seems !
How would I post a photo from my iPad if I am accessing the Forum on my iPad ?
Tomorrow at 10am three guys are coming round to lift my Mezzo into place !
My kiln dried wood arrived today, so I am raring to go but might not try pizzas tomorrow as I think I didn't ought to roar the fire up too hot on its first outing.
I might try some sort of slow cooked lamb instead.
Anyway, might be cool to get together some time so I can pick your brains as I am completely new to all this !!

Stephan
I hope you get some feedback from members who use an ipad to upload images....just in case, I have asked my proboards support team for a simple formula for this. (usually takes between 2 minutes and 24hrs for an answer.
Make sure you follow Laura's/Stone bake instructions to the letter when firing your oven for the first time. Some modular ovens need slow curing fires....others a pre-cured. Laura and her team will let you know exactly how to fire.....and get the best out of your oven.
Terry
p.s....hope the lift/installation went well.

Stephen The message back from the proboards support team was... ...Hi Terry, "I don't believe that attachments are currently support for the Safari browser on iPad. What they can do though is download the free version of the Tapatalk app from the app store on their device, and using this app they should be able to browse the forum and make attachments with that " Hope that helps......if it doesn't, please state your problems and I will forward them to the support team. Hi Terry
The installation went really well, cooked slow-cooked moroccan shoulder of lamb on Saturday and pizza's last night !
I want to have a go at the plank grilling but I also thought I might have made up a metal grill on legs, so that I could put steaks on top and drag the embers underneath and then pull the whole thing out with the steaks on it. Any thoughts ? Obviously wouldn't want sharp bottoms to the legs which would scratch the bottom of the oven
I tried the Tapatalk app but could not find this forum on it ! I searched for "uk wood fired oven" but it came up with nothing remotely resembling this forum
Any ideas ?
Stephen

What you are describing is a Tuscan grill and fairly commonly used in wfos, though I don't use mine that often. As long as your oven floor is reasonably level you shouldn't have a problem but I would try to move it around as little as possible.

Sorry about the tapatalk thing.....I'll pass on your comment to the support team......maybe they have another solution. (I often have problems uploading images with our system so now I always use a simple html code when I want to upload an image. As long as you can right click on an image and copy the "image url", you can paste/copy the image url into this code...
Love the sound of your Morrocan lamb. Never tried a Tuscan grill myself....sounds good. Some members have cooked "dirty steaks", which are steaks cooked directly on hot embers. Also never tried this but the pics I've seen of it look rather good.

Hi Terry
I managed to incinerate £42 of steak on the Tuscan Grill, and when I pulled it out i just about melted through my welders gauntlets !
I made the mistake of dragging some of the hot coals under the grill, and then got distracted for 10 minutes and when I came back the steaks were on fire !
Probably would have been ok if had not dragged the coals under.
I have the photos on my computer but don't know how to get the image url - I guess they have to be up on the web somewhere to start with. Is there no way of just uploading them direct from my PC ?

Stephan Shame about the stakes. I really don't get to use a WFO that often or perhaps I could suggest a better method. £42 quid.....you must be gutted!! I have to admit that I forgot to pass on your last message to our support guys.....I'll do it as soon as I finished this post. Here is the post on our support board support.proboards.com/thread/507178/post-images-ipad-proboards-forum (if there's anything that I missed you can also ask for answers....even without regestering (as a guest)) Yes.... you can upload images direct from your PC.....When you click the reply button there is an "add Attachment" box in the top right hand corner. Click on this and it will take you to your own PC files. Choose a pic and attach. You can add 2 or maybe 3 (not sure) pics at a time. they will appear in a small format but are thumbnails... "clickable" so the full pic appears when clicked on. Terry
