One of my brothers has just emailed me to say he is going to build an oven.
He has sent me a 24 page pdf of "Build a Tradional Wood-Fired Oven" a step by step guide by Simon Brookes.
Does anyone have experience of this particular build?
I am not sure I would build on an oak plinth because of movement.
Having said that it looks like it should do the job.
Comments please...

I think he went on a course at "River Cottage" and then built one for himself.
Like Marcus said, he's been on the scene for quite a while and I've invited him to join (the old) forum on a few occasions...he never did though.
Simon's pdf file should be very similar to our own members clay oven builds...with the added advantage of being able to print off his build for easy to follow instructions....plus you can always post questions here.
It's still going to weigh about 1/2 a ton but a sturdy timber frame should easily hold this. using timber I would put a sheet of thermal fibre board on the timber as your heat stop, then a thermal layer (I would use thermolite blocks), then your fire-brick hearth. You can then lay your clay on the hearth ...or cut the fire-bricks to the size of your hearth and start laying your clay on the thermal layer.
best of luck with your project.
Terry
n.b.....If you haven't any clay to hand, then "Turf" suppliers usually sell clay.

Thanks for the info - I didn't realise turf suppliers sold clay. Coincidently he lives in a village which was known for being entirely cob at one time.

I used the same pdf, and came up with a decent oven, which has the initial part of the build stop motioned below. youtu.be/kdmmPxlQ6DEthe other information i found useful was that the entrance should be 63% of the internal height to get good heat around the oven and flow out of the chimney.

Hello Tony....welcome to the forum
Just seen your oven build on you tube......looking good. Have you changed the chimney design?
Terry
p.s.....you can (could you) start your own thread in this category. Just click on "new thread"....and give your thread a title......way to go.

Apologies if you invited me to join the forum and I didn't reply. I don't recall getting an invitation but thanks anyway. Happy to answer any questions you may have re my blog, book or anything to do with building ovens. Great forum! Simon
