G'day More like a strip straight across the front of the oven as height as the insulation and brick hearth to isolate the entrance from the oven proper Regards dave

G'day Yep that's it, you could buy thinner though I don't think thickness is really required as a moisture barrier just its resistance to moisture and heat. Plastic could not resist the heat but would resist moisture. Alunimium would corrode in the moisture. That why I recon stainless steel. Regards dave

G'day Get 2 pieces of old angle iron, line up the last 10 mm in a vise and bend it at right angles. In not a great metal worker and I find Stainless hard to cut and worse to drill Regards dave

Il look forward to following your tread once started good luck ! Thanks Lee,
yep, I know rather lots about this as I have been involved with both restaurants (summer jobs) and have several ovens on my own and this build is the first one after a very long time. First brick build in South wales, the other one I build was a pre fabricated one which I just assembled together with an old friend who was a builder.
Am looking forward to getting on with it so to enjoy again the old recipes

Hi guys had a bad time trying to get the face bricks I wanted but managed to get my hands on some yesterday! Had an hour in the trowel yesterday and few more today got all the footprint done so can see the size it's going to be now it's a monster! To the left of the oven is a prep area with under arch and to the right is a fireplace / bbq

I can't really go no further with the oven until I get the face work up to the start of arch level as I have nothing to build on

G'day Lee Coming along real nice. Well done . Your really getting the hang of the brick laying now. One point you might want to consider is the entrance is built of fire brick which are not water resistant at all . Chuck a firebrick and a house brick in water and you'll see the difference. The brick will just shit there where the firebrick will bubble as the moisture displaces the air. You might want to include some seal on that entrance in your final plans As Gulf would say" just saying" Regards dave

Thanks dave yes I know what you mean about the firebrick in a bucket of water it sounds like a soda machine! Hissing away with all the bubbles I'm taking the face bricks up with another arch around the firebrick leaving a 2 inch reveal for a weather door so they will be mostly covered the whole area will be roofed over also . But I need to get both my chimneys out the roof line first and can't do that until I get the face work up
