G'day lee You have built you oven entrance from firebrick and they are pretty prorus, in fact they are not really resistant to water at all. Could I suggest that you add a cap of the house brick to the oven entrance to protect you oven from the elements a bit more. From what I can see from the pics it would bring you oven entrance in line with the other arches in the build and keep the same brick type on the face as well. I'm just saying off course your the builder Regards dave

Sorry dave I haven't explained in my thread what I propose to do with the outside here is a pic that I forgot to post. These bricks will continue to arch around the entrance to support a brick chimney from the same brick to go out my roof with a twin wall 8inch stainless steel inside of the brickwork capped off with a clay pot I've seen. the dome will also be finished in this brick to tie in with the entrance il proberly use brick slips for this a little similar to your oven!

3 cans of stella later and I couldn't stop thinking about the mortar joints under the arch form so I went for it dropped out a treat and there was enough mortar in the entry way for me to point it all up keeping the mortar as one and not putting new on top of old tomorrow

Very very nice build; that arch is not going anywhere, but you're going to need planning permission if the dome is getting the same treatment

Thanks chas and oblertone I'm well happy with. Oblertone the oven is getting a similar treatment same brick but cut into slips and stuck on to the render layer I'm not aware I would need planning for this could you put me wide? Thanks lee

Lee, my apologies for any confusion, it's just that I've seen plenty of houses not built as substantially as your oven, hence the tongue in cheek comment. Can't wait to see it finished.
