Hi I’m new here and have been reading and researching on here and elsewhere for a while.
I’d like to construct a Pompeii oven as part of small outdoor ‘kitchen’ area I’ve got some room for in our garden. This could take the form of a L-shaped concrete slab with the vertical part of the L being about 2.5m long. High-level ideas are wood stores for the oven (and indoor stove) underneath, brick arches and a rendered finished for the oven– possibly K-Rend, with the oven being very heavily insulated.
What I’m not sure about though, and would welcome advice and guidance on is ‘proximity’, as our garden has a number of large, mature trees in it so we are restricted as to where we can have this (I think). My preferred spot is adjacent to the back of my house, with my neighbours garden directly behind.
If the dome itself can be insulated and as I understand it shouldn’t get too hot to touch, how hot does the ‘exhaust’ from the oven through the chimney get? And how far from vegetation should this be?
As part of this build I could easily construct a 2m wooden fence with a right-angled return into my garden to screen my own hedge and my neighbour's shrubs, some of which could definitely be cut back.!
Apologies if this a simple question and I've missed the answer, but many people, our US cousins seem to have more suitable spaces available.

Hi, you get some smoke for the first half hour or so- about the same as if you were lighting a barbecue, so this shouldn't worry your neighbours too much. After about half an hour the smoke significantly reduces as the fire gets hotter. With regard to proximity to trees, clearly nothing directly overhead . Here's my oven with an adjacent couple of trees and I've had no problem.

Thanks Rokdok, my next door neighbour is a good sort and I don't envisage a problem. My oven will be a few feet from the house.

Rokdok that looks like a very nice oven / setup you have there!
Good to know smoke dies down - I'm having my first pizza party this weekend and I've only had a few curin fires to date - I was a bit concerned about the smoke then

Just keep them in the loop, talk to them, look up and learn about good fire lighting technique with well seasoned dry hardwood, offer a night in front of the fire with wine and pizza, and before too long you'll be building a second oven next door!

Soon as I get the chance I will upload another photo! From further reading/learning the outer dome doesn't get hot, the heat out the oven door points towards the garden, and smoke shouldn't be an issue. As you say, dialogue is (always) the best option.
