Under hearth insulation

I am planning a pompeii oven build soon and trying to keep escalating costs down a bit. Has anyone used or had any experience using thermalite blocks as under hearth insulation?

Thermalite blocks have been used successfully on a number of builds here to the extent that its probably become the standard under hearth insulation.
