Here's a photo of the intended site for my Pompeii WFO. Yesterday part of the hedge was removed, sadly the Leylandii has got some disease, so at some stage I need to sort that out too. Next job is to clear the old coal bunker away. Then I can erect a 2m high fence, which will have a small right-angled 'return' that will screen the end of the remaining hedge, this is intended to afford some privacy and protection to my neighbours adjoining garden. I can also fix an outdoor, bulkhead light to it. The oven door will be at 45° to the rear of the property, in line with the downpipe and corner of the coal bunker, as you look at the photo. On both sides there will be a cast, polished black concrete worktop; a prep area to the right, with the fence behind and a built-in stainless steel gas BBQ to the left, under the window. The block work will screen off the grey soil pipe (the worktop will overhang the block work along that edge) and provide the usual wood storage area too, beneath the oven and the right-hand prep area. It will be rendered and painted the same colour as the house. [/a>]

Got slab poured on Saturday after breaking up old coal bunker, rebar went on top of this and was probably over 100mm, it was a tonne bulk bag anyway.
Laying out blocks trying to work out sizes and shape, all very well doing this on paper but it changes when you're on the ground. Been working out how to fit two metal doors to go under gas BBQ, which will be under the window. The nice thing is the scruffy wet dash, grey soil pipe from shower room and exterior paint will be completely obscured by the new oven and its surrounds.
To the rear will be a horizontal fence, returning to the side of the hedge, using roofing batons and deck screws.
Also tidied up side of patio with some raised beds for salad crops. For the eagle-eyed brick layers out there, you might be able to see the effect of rising damp on the brick shed :-( My WFO arrived on Friday as I've decided on a modular one, for a number of reasons. 12 pieces, purchased the lightweight blocks on Saturday and bricks for decorative arch but need to work out how much vermicrete to order now.

Hi edinburghman,
How are you getting on with your oven?
I've just moved from Leith to a house in Inverkeithing and am in the process of planning my oven
