Hi all, I have been reading everything I can with regard to building my own oven and although they come in all sizes, I'm looking for a set of basic plans for a 70-90 internal diameter oven along with a materials list. I don't know how many bricks I'll need for example. The base and structure is pretty basic but when it comes to how many firebricks, insulation i need, I don't want to order too much. Any help out there would be appreciated.

Hi,
I have just completed a Pompeii oven, my 1st one and it was quite daunting at first. I spent hours going through this forum and extracting (cut & paste) info which i pasted into an Evernote page (very useful multi platform notebook so you can use it across computer, phone & notebook). Finally i took the plunge so if you look at my pages you will see the progress. My concrete pad was 1 x 1.2m which limited the size of the oven. The internal measurements are 60 x 63cm which is quite small, generally a 'small' oven is considered to be 70 x 70cm. On the advise of the guy from Kilnlinings I bought 160 firebricks for a 70cm internal, however i have only used 100. Don't forget to ask for the UKwoodfiredoven members discount.
160 x Fire bricks 42GD - 230 x 114 x 64mm 1 x 7.32m 50mm (96kg) LBT HT blanket 2 x Fire Clay bag (Approx 25kg,) = £29.98 2 x Calcium Silicate 1000GD 1220x 500 x 25mm = £39.98
4 x 25kg builders sand - about £2 a bag from B&Q, Jewson or Travis Perkins 2 x 25kg cement 2 x bags of Vermeculite - used 1.7 bags 1 x bag of hydrated lime - i have about 50% - 2/3rds left chicken wire or mesh
if you buy from Jewson you also can get a UKWoodfired discount - account number WOOP 248
all of this is just the oven, it doesn't include the foundations and whatever you build the oven on top of. good luck, it all works out in the end. Anything else just ask
Ben
