Hi, I've been busy reading the forum over the past few months, and also the book 'From the wood fired oven' by Richard Miscovich. I am now just about ready to start building my barrel oven. I'm hoping to get the foundation slab, supporting walls and oven slab down before the winter sets in. My intention is to build a well insulated oven [foamglass, blanket etc] using tapered firebricks. I intend using the oven to cook meat, bread and of course pizza. Thanks to everyone who has written such interesting and useful build posts. Dave.

Hi Phil, Tapered firebricks will be from Kiln Linings, as by far the cheapest for firebricks, plus they do a good selection of cut/tapered firebricks. Foamglass insulation off Ebay. Fireblanket and castable likely to be Kiln Linings as well. Carriage is expensive, so I'll try and do it all in 1 order. Steel mesh for foundation slab was off Ebay, as cheap delivery and size was a problem when buying locally [comes as sheet about 10ft by 14 ft locally!] I will probably buy Rebar off Ebay also, as they do delivery for £10. [local steel merchant unfortunately was unfriendly and not interested] Dave.

I'm in Horsham and have some left over firebricks from Kiln Linings if you're interested - not sure how many exactly but probably 70 +
