Good evening ladies and gentlemen, i am new to this forum and I can see a lot of information has been put together. I'm hoping on building a Pompeii oven in a few months when I've got some money together and just doing a lot of research before I attempt anything, this is going to be fun.

Thank you, I'm hoping that I can get the right materials and waiting for the weather to brighten up a bit more before I start. I'm going to use firebrick for the oven flop buy Would clay bricks for the dome be ok to use or would I need to just use firebrick for the whole oven?

welcome timberland, yes you can use old red clay solids for the dome no problem, have a look at my build i used them, or bookemdannos build, he used them aswell . . . ukwoodfiredovenforum.proboards.com/thread/67/suffolk-oven. as you have said though you definitely want to use fire brick or storage heater bricks for your oven floor keith

G'day Sand, foam ply forms certainly make it easy to build a strong structure at a good pace. There disadvantage is that you can't clean and check your work as you go. That's the advantage of the IT or trammel method, but its a lot slower There is no right or wrong way you'll still end up with a dome one of the strongest structures on the planet. Why don't you direct some of those other questions in the general forum section. It will leave some information for those that come after us. Enjoy the journey Regards dave
